Costco Wholesale operates over 600 warehouse locations across the United States, attracting millions of members who rely on bulk grocery purchasing, low-cost fuel, optical services, and pharmacy fills. Unlike standard big-box supermarkets that maintain extended 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM schedules, Costco strictly enforces shorter, highly structured warehouse operating hours to keep labor costs low and pass savings on to members.
Navigating a Costco trip efficiently requires understanding the distinct opening windows between the main warehouse floor, the Costco Gas Station, and in-store specialty service counters.
Standard Warehouse Operating Schedule
Across most US locations, Costco warehouses follow a uniform weekly operating framework:
- Monday through Friday: Doors open at 10:00 AM and close at 8:30 PM.
- Saturday: Doors open at 9:30 AM and close at 6:00 PM.
- Sunday: Doors open at 10:00 AM and close at 6:00 PM.
Note: While official warehouse doors open at 10:00 AM on weekdays, many high-volume locations implement a soft opening 15 to 20 minutes early to manage lobby crowd density.

Specialty Service Counter & Gas Station Schedules
Many of Costco’s highest-value member perks operate on independent schedules separate from the main retail warehouse floor:
1. Costco Gas Stations
Costco Gas Stations open significantly earlier than the main warehouse to accommodate morning commuters. Most station pumps begin operating at 6:00 AM on weekdays and 7:00 AM on weekends, remaining open until 9:30 PM on weekdays and 7:00 PM on weekends (typically 30 to 60 minutes past main warehouse floor closure).
2. Costco Pharmacy
In-store pharmacies generally open alongside the warehouse floor at 10:00 AM on weekdays but close earlier, typically at 7:00 PM Monday through Friday and 6:00 PM on Saturdays. Crucially, Costco Pharmacies remain completely closed on Sundays, even though the main warehouse floor is fully operational.
3. Optical, Hearing Aid Center & Food Court
Costco Food Courts operate during standard warehouse hours, shutting down grill orders 15 minutes prior to store close. Optical and Hearing Aid centers match regular warehouse hours but require advance appointments for comprehensive eye exams and fitting consultations.
Official Holiday Schedule: Complete Closures
Costco is well known for maintaining one of the most generous employee holiday policies in the retail sector. While competing big-box stores stay open on major national holidays, Costco observes complete warehouse closures on seven major holidays each year.
On all non-closure holidays—such as Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, Independence Day Eve, and Thanksgiving Eve—warehouses operate under normal schedule or close early at 5:00 PM.

- Plan Around Sunday Pharmacy Closures: Because the pharmacy is closed on Sundays, ensure all prescription refills are collected by Saturday afternoon.
- Shop Mid-Week Afternoons: The lowest warehouse foot-traffic levels occur between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, offering the fastest checkout lane turnaround.
